“It’s an idea as old as the hills.” Gandhi
As you all know I do a lot of reading for the purpose of expanding myself. Recently I found myself reading about Gandhi and his idea of ‘satyagraha’. I realized as I was investigating this concept, that Conscious Living Investigation (CLI) is satyagraha! WOW!
When I think about our world today and how our political selves attempt to manage and cope with problems, I realized that from a place of fear and combat, solving problems is never possible. Fighting each other is actually not the answer! We will need to create a paradigm shift in the way we solve problems by removing the focus to the problem itself (the thing) not each other. If we can liberate ourselves into this new way of problem-solving we will expand and grow our capacity to transform.
This means we cannot operate unconsciously as the majority anymore! It means, in the words of Thoreau, “Anyone who discovers a truth becomes a majority of one; a qualitatively different force from the uncommitted majority’. You must be willing to commit your whole vote as it were to the truth, without fear or coercion, for a minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority. An act of the majority should not be able to bind a minority. The numbers of the majority should not count for more than the truth of the minority.
So now we have reached the idea of ‘satyagraha’. This swift and direct soul force is about deriving power from fierce autonomy and total compassion. (Hummm, sounds like CLI to me!) Coercion is not the answer but investigating the truth is! In this way we can focus our attention on the thing in the middle instead of each other as the opposition. In truth there is no opposition only a misunderstanding as we are fooled by our own fears. Fear cannot cohabitate with true love and compassion and gratitude. This is the way of knowing that all real resolution comes from the courage and integrity of self investigation, not the fear-based blaming and shaming of anyone. This is a great departure from the arena most of us know now; one of confrontation, “let make a deal”, seduction, and mind games. Satyagraha transforms conflict at the source – the heart of each participant! This is about changing without the need to defeat or be defeated! Gandhi suggests that by discarding defenses and denials we can allow for insight and truth to be a stronger power than any arms.
Ok so what do we do now? Nice idea but how the hell do we accomplish this? Where’s the how??
After all my years studying I believe I have shown myself how. A daily practice of presence moment to moment aimed at reducing and perhaps some day eliminating the fear based life I once led. Of course as you know CLI and the BodyTalk System are two ‘hows’ based in the same philosophy – heal the split mind to heal everything! I lead myself as a majority of one, transforming my perception of myself. If this example helps you do the same or invites you to come along – perfect!
